Fans think Robertson should have been sent off after similar tackle as Auba's

Andy Robertson was lucky to escape a red card for this lunge on Spurs new boy Japhet Tanganga - with fans certain he should have been sent off.

And comparisons were drawn with Arsenal star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's horror challenge against Palace, which was given a red.

Liverpool surged 16 points clear with a 1-0 win in North London but were lucky to end the game with 11 men.

Reds star Robertson went in studs up for his 66th-minute challenge on Tanganga but the tackle was not referred to VAR.

Aubameyang was initially given a yellow for his infringement but the punishment was upgraded to a red.

And irate social media users were complaining the same should have been done for Robertson, even if he did appear to make contact with the ball first.

One said: "VAR's inconsistency is unbelievable, that foul by Robertson looks almost similar to the one that earned Auba a red card earlier this evening.

"Amazed that it’s not even been reviewed. This can end up breaking your shin and seeing off your career very easily."

Another posted: "Two challenges in the same day. One is reviewed and a red card given, the other not even looked at.

"Both high, both reckless and both studs in the air.

"Wonder why VAR didn't look at the latest one by Robertson."

A fellow user wrote: "Will @FA or @premierleague look at it retrospectively? Will they hell!"

One comment read: "One of these challenges was overturned to red. Similar tackles. Not even looked at from Robertson. No consistency with the VAR."

Another said: "Andy Robertson takes out the same sort of tackle as Aubameyang but of course VAR isn't going to check that. I've had enough for today."
