Gomez predicts Liverpool to go “a long way” in Carabao following Norwich victory

Heading to Carrow Road for the second time this season already, Liverpool repeated their opening day trick and beat the hosts 3-0, this time in the Carabao Cup third round.

Two goals from fringe player Takumi Minamino either side of a header from Divock Origi ensured that Jurgen Klopp’s side marched on.

The reward for the professional performance is a fourth-round trip to Lancashire outfit Preston North End.

Joe Gomez backs Liverpool to go all the way

Amid nine changes, centre back Joe Gomez was one of those handed a start, just his second following a knee injury that saw him miss a large part of last season alongside Virgil Van Dijk. With new boy Ibrahima Konate now another player to potentially compete for places with in the squad, Gomez was quick to point out the advantages of Liverpool’s new-found squad depth, saying:

“We’ve had some tough draws in recent years that have led to some early exits. But with the squad depth that exists now I don’t see any reason why we can’t go a long way in this competition this season.”

“The gaffer has reiterated to us that we all need to be ready to play our part. It’s a squad game and everyone is important.”

“There’s a really good mindset in the camp. There is no sulking, no stressing if you don’t get picked. The only detriment is to yourself if you’re not ready when your chance comes along.”
