Manchester United fans are demanding Ole Gunnar Solskjaer listens to Sir Alex Ferguson's advice by signing John McGinn.

Reports last month claimed Ferguson is lobbying for his fellow Scot to be on the radar at Old Trafford as a potential future signing after his impressive performances for Aston Villa.

The 24-year-old made an instant impact on his Premier League debut with a well-taken goal to give the newly promoted side a 1-0 lead in the first half at Tottenham .

It led to United fans branding him a "future United player" and demanding Solskjaer get him on his transfer shortlist ahead of the January window.

Fans took to social media to declare they "can't wait until he's playing for United" and can see why Ferguson recommended him.

Some fans were convinced United had missed out by failing to make a move for the former Hibernian star before the summer transfer window closed on Thursday.

One fan wrote that he "looks a player we could have done with this season" with others slamming the club for failing to listen to Ferguson.

"This is the same player Sir Alex Ferguson asked Man Utd to sign this Summer. Should have listened @ManUtd ," another supporter wrote.

Ferguson still offers advice to his former player Solskjaer regarding potential transfer targets.

The legendary boss is believed to have developed a close friendship with McGinn's grandad, Jack, and views him as a player with a potential to play for the Red Devils.

McGinn, meanwhile, laughed off reported United interest over the summer.

He said: “I had a little chuckle at it to be honest. I'm sure a lot of people did.

"It is up to me to go and prove it is justified.

“At that point my whole mindset was on Villa and being successful here.

"I have still got so much left to learn and prove. In the environment here I am appreciated.

"I'm loved and respected by everyone. There is no better feeling. I still have to pinch myself driving in.”
