According to Mundo Deportivo, Espanyol will begin pre-season preparations on July 7, and the club hopes to finalize new signings and accelerate player departures by then.

Espanyol's first-team players are enjoying their final two weeks of vacation and will reconvene on July 7 to officially begin pre-season preparations for the 2024-25 season. On that day, Manolo González's squad will undergo routine medical examinations and start their initial training sessions at Dani Jarque Sports City to gradually regain match fitness.

If all goes as planned, new signings will already be in the Espanyol dressing room by the gathering date, and more than one player departure will also be confirmed. Facilitating departures is a priority for the sports management.

Espanyol's first two signings for the 2024-25 season are largely on track, and the club's plan is for them to train with the team on July 7. Monchi will accelerate these two deals over the next two weeks. The target players are Carles Calatrava, a 26-year-old attacking midfielder from Castellón, and Lutsharel Geertruida, a 24-year-old Dutch left-back.

Regarding Calatrava, Espanyol has already reached an agreement with the Catalan midfielder. The key now lies in negotiations between Espanyol and Castellón regarding the payment structure for his release clause. Calatrava's release clause stands at 5 million euros from July 1 onwards. Fran Garagarza's team has been tracking the attacking midfielder for several months, and this Friday also marks three years since Garagarza joined Espanyol.

Another signing that could be completed soon is Geertruida, according to Dutch sources. Strengthening the left-back position is crucial, and Monchi must proceed carefully, as filling the void left by Carlos Romero is one of the sports management's most important and challenging tasks.

The next two weeks will be critical as Espanyol begins rebuilding Manolo's squad. However, the transfer window remains long, with much work still to be done and progress currently moving slowly. What is certain is that departures will accelerate in the coming days.
