Newcastle fans were left hugely frustrated as the transfer window closed yesterday, with the club having again been rather frugal with regards to buying new players.
Their misery was compounded on Friday when owner Mike Ashley's Sports Direct bought House of Fraser for £90million.
Ashley has been heavily criticised by Newcastle fans for the way in which he runs the club, and legendary former Magpies striker Alan Shearer had his say on the situation with a humorous tweet.
In relation to Sports Direct's purchase of House of Fraser, Shearer, Newcastle's record scorer with 206 goals, wrote on Twitter: 'What position does he play?'
Newcastle fan Neil McEvoy responded to Shearer's tweet by writing: 'How Ze Fraser, Dutch centre half Alan'.
Commentator Dan Mason also poked fun at the situation. He wrote: 'Newcastle have bought someone called Hassov Fraser. New one on me.'
Other notable figures also had their say, including presenter Gabby Logan, who wrote: 'Is he a striker?'
Meanwhile, popular Twitter account @Footyaccums wrote: 'Should slot nicely into Rafa's midfield
'Shelvey - Fraser - Diame'
The jokes continued, with @RobRLFC writing: 'They'll score 20 goals a season under Rafa'.
@KristianWall92 added: 'Solid Mitrovic replacement, should be able to get on the end of a Jonjo Shelvey ball.'
Furthermore, James Price wrote: 'Club transfer record finally broken'.
Newcastle brought in seven new signings during the summer transfer window, but none of those players cost over £10million.
The most expensive arrival was Japanese forward Yoshinori Muto, who arrived from Mainz for £9.5million.
Defender Federico Fernandez joined from Swansea for £6million, while Fabian Schar made the switch from Deportivo La Coruna for £3million.
Furthermore, Ki Sung-yeung joined on a free transfer after leaving Swansea and goalkeeper Martin Dubravka made his move from Sparta Prague permanent for £4million.
Kenedy and Salomon Rondon joined on loan from Chelsea and West Bromwich Albion respectively but that wasn't enough to placate many Newcastle fans, who demanded for more money to be spent.
