On this day in 1996, Newcastle broke the transfer record for a striker and brought Alan Shearer to play for his boyhood club.
Shearer went on to score a record 206 goals for Newcastle, and still to this day- his record of 260 Premier League goals remains the most goals scored in the league.
And the rest is history. What a signing!

15million world record for a striker, 260 premier league goals and still couldn't win a trophy. what a waste of talent! Those goals would have won him trophies at bigger clubs and still be honoured till date as a big club legend.
