On this day in 2010, Messi scored 4 lethal goals and demolished Arsenal in UCL

There’s no shame in being torn apart by Lionel Messi, arguably the greatest forward to play the game. But there was something particularly brutal about Messi’s destruction of Arsenal on 6 April 2010.

Arsene Wenger’s side had pulled off an impressive 2-2 draw at the Emirates in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final, giving Arsenal fans hope of a famous win. But Messi ruined the contest unforgettably.

Wenger was reduced to awe more than misery, particularly by the fourth and last of his goals. "He made the impossible possible," said the Arsenal manager. "He has six or seven years in front of him, touch wood that nothing happens to him, and he can reach unbelievable levels."

On this day in 2009, Grafite scored an incredible wonder goal against Bayern

One of the goals of Wolfsburg's 5-1 victory against Bayern Munich, when he dribbled past several defenders and then finished with a slow shot with his heel, even brought him international attention.

In Germany, it was voted Goal of the Year. It was also nominated for Puskas Award that year and ultimately ranked third in the fan vote.
