Robbie Savage has tweeted about his pride at watching his son Charlie produce a 'Maradona turn' during Manchester United's 4-0 pre-season win against Liverpool on Tuesday.
Savage Jr was introduced at the break in Bangkok, and he made his mark in the second half with one particular piece of skill.
As the ball came loose on the edge of his own penalty area, Savage kept his composure, executing a Maradona turn away from Mohamed Salah before playing the ball calmly back to his goalkeeper. His father was certainly impressed, and suggested that this was not something that runs in the family.
'So so proud @charliesavage84, thought you were terrific, a Maradona turn on edge of your own box, who did you get that from? Finally a Savage that can play,' Savage Sr tweeted.
He then put out another social media post with a clip of the skill, writing: 'Love to see it @charlie savage84, confident and brave on the edge of your own box against the best player in Premier League, Mo Salah.'
The elder Savage had a distinguished career himself, making 345 top-flight appearances, although he never played for United's senior side, having come through the club's academy.
His teenage son has already made his first team debut, having come on as a late substitute against Young Boys in the Champions League last December.
If he continues to perform like he did against Liverpool, he could get more minutes on the pitch in the not-too-distant future.
Savage was not the only youngster to impress in Erik ten Hag's first game in charge either.
Fellow midfielder Zidane Iqbal also came on at half time, and he was faced with the challenge of taking on Fabinho, Thiago Alcantara and Naby Keita in the final half hour.
The 19-year-old, who signed a new long-term contract at Old Trafford last month, was not overawed, and looked tidy in possession from the outset.
He also showed bravery on the ball in the 66th minute when he took the ball under pressure from Fabinho while facing his own goal.
With no obvious options to pass to, it would have been easy for him to panic, but he kept his wits about him and ended up turning the Brazilian with ease before dribbling upfield with the ball.
Ten Hag has made it clear that he wants to bolster his midfield this summer, but Savage and Iqbal showed that the Red Devils already have a couple of exciting prospects coming through their ranks in the middle of the park.

this young lads will definitely do more of that if they will be given chances. Is what they have in there brains that was interpreted during the match,if the coach can encourage them like Xavi have done to his young lads, they will certainly do well. mixture of senior players and younger players will be better
