Schalke mock Liverpool fans' reaction to John Stones' goal-line clearance

It has been quite the week for goal-line clearances after Liverpool came within 11mm of taking the lead in their top-of-the-table clash with Manchester City.

"But I saw shadow, it must have crossed the line", Schalke 04 write on their social media.

Though the Goal Decision System clearly showed the whole of the ball had not crossed the line, some Liverpool fans on Twitter were not so accepting.

They claimed that the shadow of the ball was over the line, showing there was a fault with the system and that a goal should have been awarded.

This browser does not support the video element.

And now, four days later, Bundesliga outfit Schalke have taken the opportunity to pile in.

The German club shared a video from their winter training camp, showing an incredibly acrobatic effort from Salif Sane.

The defender races back as the ball sails towards the goal and manages to hook it away from danger in mid-air.

Schalke posted the video alongside the caption: 'I saw a shadow, it must have crossed the line', with a knowing nod towards those sceptical Liverpool fans.

And predictably, fans of rival clubs on social media lapped it up.

@tpomBranchley simply tweeted, 'Ohhhh ... bravo Schalke, bravo'.
