Jadon Sancho made his debut for Aston Villa on Tuesday, and a number of his Manchester United team-mates were quick to show their support for the on-loan winger in the next stage of his career

Bruno Fernandes was among the Manchester United stars, past and present, to back Jadon Sancho following his debut for Aston Villa. Sancho has had a tough spell at Old Trafford after his move from Borussia Dortmund in 2021, struggling to replicate his Bundesliga success in the Premier League.

Last season saw him loaned out to Chelsea, where he managed five goals and 10 assists in all competitions. Despite Chelsea's obligation to purchase Sancho for £25million due to their fourth-place finish, they chose to pay a £5m fee to return him to Manchester instead.

With Sancho not fitting into Ruben Amorim's vision for 2025/26, he currently finds himself on loan once more, this time at Villa Park. In his first full outing for Villa, Sancho featured in a 1-1 draw against Brentford in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night, with Villa exiting the competition after a nail-biting penalty shootout.

Despite the disappointing result, Sancho took to Instagram to share his enthusiasm for his new beginning, posting photos from the match with the caption: "Happy to make my debut for @avfcofficial, not the result we wanted but something to build on."

Several of the star's Manchester United colleagues were quick to rally behind the 25-year-old. The Manchester Evening News reports among those who liked his post were club captain Fernandes and Marcus Rashford, who is currently on loan at Barcelona after falling out with Amorim.

Young talents Ethan Wheatley, on loan at Northampton Town, and Joe Hugill, currently playing for Barnet, also showed their support, while former teammates Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Jesse Lingard and Tosin Adarabioyo were among those who also liked the post.

Aston Villa defender Ian Maatsen even left a couple of love heart emojis in the comments section. Sancho's loan move comes as he enters the final year of his contract with United, although the club can extend his deal by a year to avoid losing him on a free transfer next summer.

Sancho isn't the only player United have let go this summer after being excluded from Amorim's future plans. Rashford spent the second half of last season on loan at Villa before returning to his parent club this summer.

He is now playing for Barcelona on a season-long loan, with the Spanish giants holding an option to make the move permanent for £20m. In other news, United have successfully sold Alejandro Garnacho to Chelsea in a £40m deal.

The Argentine youngster has struggled to meet expectations at Old Trafford in 2020, with reports of a falling out with Amorim at the training ground this summer. Now, the 21-year-old is adjusting to life at Stamford Bridge, having made his debut in a 2-2 draw against Brentford over the weekend.

He may also get a run out in Chelsea's Champions League face-off with Bayern Munich on Wednesday evening, as Enzo Maresca juggles European and domestic commitments. Another player to leave United this summer was Antony, who secured a permanent move to Real Betis after a successful loan stint with the Spanish outfit last season.

During his loan period, Antony netted nine goals and provided five assists for Betis, and Manuel Pellegrini will be hoping for more of the same this campaign, having snapped up the Brazilian for an initial £19m plus add-ons.
