You can check there days a player cannot win 4ballon dor in a role because they are all skillful and not by goals but by accurate passings,vision,tactical ability,not about how many goals or hatricks you scored..  This days it's about goals,check the last player in who won ballon d'or in the post Messi and cr7 era. Kaka,was not the top scorer but about brilliant skills.. Lastly the competition was so tensed that Zidane will never votes for Delima when his also contest for the honor like Xavi and iniesta who will always voted Messi for the love and for the club to produce the best player in there clubs. Xavi deserved the balloon d'or yet he voted Messi just for Barcelona player to win it ahead of Madrid. this are the competition he meant

Award was given to players with technical abilities but now if u don't win trophies and add up incredible stat u wouldn't be considered. We had Xavi, Iniesta, Pirlo, Kroos, Salah, Rooney etc who were also good. Now that CR7 and Messi are not in the equation, I think balon d'or will come back to it's normal state like the R9, Zidane era where technical abilities and individual brilliance were the only parameters for judging the best player. CR7 and Messi took football to the highest level

Check out the performance of Messi against Ronaldo in 2008. It was judged by achievements of Ronaldo than it was about individual performances. Messi did everything but lacked goals so therefore Ronaldo was judged as better and took the FIFA best player that time. So, the next season Messi hit back by winning everything and improved in his finishing. To me, that was when all these crazy changes happened instead of going for the passion in football people just care about goals and achievement. So, since then it’s about whom scores more goals regardless of how poor that scorer plays.

I agree and disagree with Ronaldo Nazario. Yes he mentioned skillful players and his generation was packed with talents but take nothing away from Messi & Cristiano. They worked hard and unfortunately because of their dominance, other skillful players were not recognized. Due to their overzealous nature, they broke the logic of Ballon D’or which started counting stats such as goals and assists. You simply cant under look someone having more that 60 G&A contributions per season. It’s outrageous
