It is fair to say Cesc Fabregas did not have the best of times towards the end of his spell in England.
But even this weekend, after he had left Stamford Bridge, Maurizio Sarri admitted he wished he had had him as an option in the Newcastle clash.
And he showed exactly why Thierry Henry was so desperate to bring him to Monaco during their match against Marseille.
While the principality side did not win their match at the Stade Velodrome, their 1-1 result is a commendable outcome for a team that is fighting relegation from Ligue 1 this season.
There was a moment that proved he could have a huge impact in that particular battle.
He was stood on the edge of the area and the ball was played back to him from a wide position. Rather than shooting, he instead chipped a perfect ball into the path of Youri Tielemans.
With a bit more thought from the Belgian and a better first touch, Fabregas should have had his first assist at his new club.
Social media inevitably reacted positively to the pass from the Spaniard.
@PeterBellas wrote: 'Cesc doing what Cesc does . . . except that he should be doing it for Arsenal.'
'Why Wenger passed up on the chance to sign him back from Barca when Arsenal had 1st buy back is beyond me,' wrote @Mark_Malone.
@Billy_Jackson8 added: 'Name someone who has better vision and passing range in prem history than Cesc Fabregas .. because I can't'.
'Everything is perfect with that pass,' said @MrTaffinovic.

I honestly don’t know what sarri sees in Jorginho ... this guy is technically far better than Jorginho... Jorginho has not done anything prominent since he joined Chelsea this season ... Chelsea made a huge mistake in letting this guy move
our attackers are useless they always faile to convert Jorginho passes into the net wont had insult the board if Jorginho had played for Mancity

Bro ! If he had been subbed for about 10 matches at least get playing time like Barkley has been getting . He will even at least sign a new contract because he knows there’s a new signing on bench !

jorginho is doing nothing in Chelsea, since he came, only one penalty goal, no assist, no shots and key passes. I mean why did we even allow Fabregas go ?

He's not as quick or strong as he used to be, but he still retains that trademark composure, vision, and intelligence that made him one of the best midfielders in Premier League history. Few sights are prettier than Fabregás' final ball.

Honestly wouldn’t really say that he’s strength. Obviously he can do that but he’s just a player who’s always looking for a killer pass from deeper positions. I’ve never known Cesc to not pick up the ball and immediately play a pass that can potentially open a defence in favour of “controlling tempo”.

What a signing he is going to be for Monaco. Ligue 1 is definitely pretty physical and it won't be as easy for Cesc as some commenters have been making it out. But hope Henry can work out a system that allows Cesc to showcase his creativity there.

Haven't seen him play for Chelsea much, and even though I remember him often struggling with consistency Fabregas was always one of my favorite players to watch when he was on form. When he hit some purple patches at Barcelona, those were really fun games to watch. Always had a soft spot for Cesc.

Honestly this is an extremely important signing for Monaco. Ever since Moutinho left they really struggled to get passes supplied around and have someone dictate the midfield to the attack. Huge boost for Monaco.

From the 2015-16 Chelsea's 26-players team only Willian, Pedro, Hazard, Azpilicueta are still there. I didn't add Cahill because he is on the way out.

Cesc Fabregas doesn't need to make thousands of passes without an assist to gain prominence, he just goes straight to the point with assists. A great footballer. Chelsea will not find someone similar to him anymore.
We don't have to find anyone similar to FABULOUS because they is only one him and he can't be others. We are Chelsea!

Fabregas has never been known for speed. He was the slowest player at Arsenal during his time there. He'll be fine in old age.

I don’t see anyone better than cesc in our midfield to be fair, fabregas is a very good player I don’t know why we sold this special player who can get something out of nothing.
