Bayern Munich veteran Arjen Robben celebrated his 35th birthday on Wednesday and fans were quick to pay tribute to the piece of skill he has become synonymous with.

Throughout his glittering career, fans have become accustomed to seeing the Dutch veteran cut back onto his left foot from the right wing and curl audacious finishes into the far corner.

It is a move that has been regularly rolled out at Chelsea, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich at the peak of his powers and made him into one of the deadliest wingers in world football.

Bayern led the birthday messages for their star man. They tweeted a short clip of a sketch of Robben being drawn as he held the Champions League trophy. In the message they described him as 'Mr Wembley, Mr 100 per cent and Mr Cut Inside'.

The official Bundesliga account also got in on the action and posted a clip of Robben's five-best German top flight goals.

Typically all five clips showed Robben performing his trademark strike in goals against Hamburg, Wolfsburg, Borussia Dortmund and Hamburg twice.

Another tribute came in the form of a motivational Bruce Lee quote. Tweeted by @Jafa, they posted: 'I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times.'

'Happy 35th birthday to Arjen 'cut inside onto your left and shoot' Robben'.

@rizkiasra added: 'Robben and Cut Inside is better love story than twilight'.

Another user posted a clock with pictures of Robben as the numbers, hinting it was always 'cut inside' time.

Robben and his Bayern team-mates are currently in the unfamiliar position of second place in the German top division, trailing leaders Borussia Dortmund by six points.

Reports earlier this month suggested Robben is keeping his options open as he prepares to leave Bayern - with Inter Milan one potential destination for the veteran Dutch winger.

The 35-year-old will bring a successful decade with Bayern to a close at the end of the season but looks likely to continue playing at a high level in Europe.

Robben has been linked with Serie A giants Inter as well as his former club PSV Eindhoven in Holland.

He said: 'For me, the future is still open, I'm still waiting, I want to wait as well. I need to focus on getting fit [following a thigh injury] and getting back into football again.

'I don't know when but of course I have to make a decision. I won't wait until the end of the season because I also have a family so I have to plan ahead a little bit.

'I'm privileged and really grateful that teams are showing interest.'
