Man Utd fans rip into Morgan's 'shocker' after he called for Ten Hag to be FIRED

Fans slammed Piers Morgan after he called on Erik ten Hag to be fired for dropping Cristiano Ronaldo against Liverpool on Monday night.

The 37-year-old Portuguese star had to settle for a place on the bench at Old Trafford, with youngster Anthony Elanga taking his place in the team before entering the pitch with just four minutes remaining.

Upon the release of team news, Morgan was left furious and called the decision 'one of the dumbest', predicting United would get 'hammered'.

He tweeted: 'Benching @Cristiano for Elanga against Liverpool, even by current abysmal Manchester United standards, is one of the dumbest decisions in football history.

'Ten Hag should be fired for this alone if they get hammered tonight.. or should I say WHEN they get hammered.'

United went on to pick up their first win of the season with a 2-1 victory over Jurgen Klopp to lift themselves up to 14th in the table.

Elanga got the assist for Jadon Sancho's 16th minute opener and Marcus Rashford added a second early in the second half before Mohamed Salah pulled one back for the visitors late on.

And fans were quick to return to Morgan's tweet earlier in the evening, with some calling on him to apologise to Ten Hag.

Steven Bartlett wrote: 'You owe Erik Ten Hag an apology video.'

Steve Pithers simply asked: 'Sorry Piers, what were you saying ???, while Jordan said: 'You’ve had a shocker here Piers'

Another fan questioned Morgan football knowledge, saying: 'Time and again this man proves he knows nothing about football.'
