Manchester United have changed their Twitter bio after been derided for focusing on making money rather than success on the pitch.
The club's Twitter bio posted a link to discounted home kit, with one fan claiming on social media the club are predominantly occupied with shirt sales rather than winning trophies.
The Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool 'bios' - a short space to introduce a Twitter account - instead referenced winning competitions or battling against racism.
The fan suggested this is indicative of United's perceived excessive interest in growing their global brand and focusing on financial gain, all while their team struggles on the pitch.
After the post was liked tens of thousands of times, United have changed their bio twice since.
In response, the Premier League side were accused of being a 'shambles' and 'scared of losing money'.
United's original bio read: 'The home of Manchester United. Get 35% off home kit and more on United direct', with a link to an online store.
City's reads: 'Est. 1894. This Is Our City. 7 x League Champions #ManCity @ManCityHelp,' and Liverpool's says: 'Official Twitter account of Liverpool Football Club. Stop The Hate, Report It. #RedTogether @LFCHelp'.
Chelsea's simply states: 'Champions of the World,' followed by a trophy and football emoji, after the Blues' Club World Cup win in February.
The United-supporting page on Twitter said: 'The Twitter bios of the clubs paint a very clear picture of what they are focused on. For City, Liverpool, and Chelsea it’s about winning trophies. For Manchester United it’s about selling more shirts. The club is a mess from top to bottom. #GlazersOut #MUFC #MCFC #LFC #CFC #PL'.
In response to United removing the link to the discounted kit, the fan posted: '....aaaand they took the shirt sales link down. Just shows the power us fans hold when we stand for something together. They are scared of us. They are scared of losing money. Shambles of a club. #MUFC #GlazersOut #ManUtd'.
United, with 30million followers on Twitter, have since changed their bio again to: 'Change. The. Game. #IWD2022' in reference to International Women's Day.
