Brazilian star Raphinha's wife, Natalia Belloli, publicly responded to rumors about Raphinha's financial situation in an effort to quell the growing public controversy.
In an interview with Brazilian media outlet "Daily do Garotinho," Belloli addressed the uproar, expressing surprise at how the discussion had spiraled over information that was "severely inconsistent with the facts."
Raphinha's wife stated: "Honestly, I find it ridiculous to discuss our financial situation. Even if we only earned 10% of what Raphinha earns now, we would still be very fortunate."
She also explained why she had delayed responding publicly to the rumors: "I didn't think it was necessary to flaunt these things on social media, because I'm fully aware of the social reality we live in. If I posted something like 'Look, I'm not poor, I'm still very rich,' everyone would definitely accuse me of being tasteless."
Belloli acknowledged that the negative impact of the rumors had grown over time. She added: "I thought this matter would gradually fade away, but these rumors have spread to Spain, and now everyone believes we're in financial trouble."
The controversy originated from comments made by Vampeta, a member of Brazil's 2002 FIFA World Cup-winning team, on the podcast "Red Cast." Vampeta claimed that Raphinha was experiencing "serious family problems" and financial difficulties, and linked these claims to transfer speculation surrounding the player. Vampeta later admitted he had heard the news as gossip during the World Cup from someone claiming to be an acquaintance of Raphinha's at Barcelona.
The remarks quickly sparked intense debate in Brazil. Raphinha's cousin, Igor Padilha, immediately refuted the allegations, stating: "Friend, you need to clarify these lies." Raphinha himself, at the center of the storm, is currently focused on the Brazilian national team and recovering from a muscle injury sustained in the match against Haiti, and has chosen not to personally address the controversy.
