On June 25th, in the third round of the FIFA World Cup group stage, South Korea lost to South Africa 1-0. After the match, South Korean player Son was interviewed.
Speaking about not being in the starting lineup, Son said: "I don't have anything particular to say about it. Watching the team lose and not being able to contribute more on the field, I feel very regretful. The players gave their all, but the result is disappointing, and I feel very sad. We need to seriously examine what problems exist within the team and reflect thoroughly."
During the hydration break in the first half, Son was seen actively encouraging his teammates on the pitch. He said: "It's tough to play on the field, but it's equally difficult watching from the sidelines. I didn't say much to my teammates, just tried to offer some simple encouragement. It's not just us playing in these conditions; both teams face the same environment. Blaming the weather won't change anything."
Regarding their chances of advancing, Son said: "This is no longer in our hands. Whatever the final result, we must accept it."
