Napoli 'mortified' by racism

Napoli publicly apologised to Kevin Malcuit’s girlfriend after she complained that Neapolitans had been “racist and disgusting” towards her.

Ashley wrote a message on her Instagram Stories protesting that she’d been on the end of several attacks.

“Since we arrived here, Neapolitans have been disgusting towards me. I am ugly, I am my boyfriend’s sister because we have similar hair. Ah, I forgot: I should also go on a diet!

“I had been warned. I am not blonde and thin, with long, straight hair. I am black and curvaceous with big afro hair (when I’m not wearing my wigs!). I am not the ‘ideal woman for a football player’ here.

“I like my curves, I love my skin, I love my hair and when I see all your comments, I think that I’m better than all of you, because I have a more beautiful soul.

“I am not in a relationship with you, therefore your opinion does not interest me!

“I was warned before coming here than Neapolitans had the reputation of being racist. I didn’t want to believe it, but I see that it’s absolutely true (not all, fortunately). Plus it’s always easier to insult from behind a phone.”

Napoli posted a statement on their official Twitter account about the situation.

“We read the outburst from Malcuit’s girlfriend, who received racist insults. We are mortified. Neapolitans are not racists. But there certainly be some idiots who are.

“We condemn them strongly. We apologise, @ashleyroseglam
