‘A bit worrying’ - Manchester United fans take issue with latest Glazer comments over sale of club

Manchester United fans are concerned that, despite putting the club up for sale, the Glazers may end up staying at Old Trafford.

This comes after Avram Glazer admitted to reporters ahead of the World Cup semi-final between France and Morocco on Wednesday that there is the possibility that the owners may end up deciding not to offload the Reds.

“It’s not necessarily a sale, it’s a process and we’re going forward with the process, so we’ll see what happens,” Glazer said. “I’m here to really watch the World Cup but I appreciate your interest. That’s the update, it’s the process and the process is proceeding.”

The Glazers purchased United in 2005 for around £790m and are thought to be now valuing the club at £7bn. Their unpopularity has peaked in recent seasons amid the first-team’s on-pitch struggles.

Countless protests have been staged while in-game walk-outs have also previously been planned. With pressure mounting, the board announced last month that it was seeking “strategic alternatives for the club”.

A number of potential bidders have been linked with a takeover bid, including Ineos billionaire and lifelong United fan Sir Jim Ratcliffe. However, following Glazer’s latest comments, United fans on Twitter are fearful that they may not get new owners after all.

Some have had enough of the uncertainty and have shared their frustration that the Glazers haven’t already sold up.
