Ruben Loftus-Cheek has agreed to join AC Milan for £17.2m from Chelsea, where he spent nearly two decades.
The midfielder, who struggled for consistent game time after returning from an eye-catching 2017 loan spell with Crystal Palace, will join for an initial fee of £13m with £4.2m from add ons.
Loftus-Cheek's form while on-loan at Palace earned the first of ten call-ups to the England team and inclusion in Gareth Southgate’s squad for the 2018 Russia World Cup.
The Rossoneri, who reached the Champions League semi-finals and finished fourth in Serie A, have been pursuing the 27-year-old since May when they were reported to be in concrete talks that were spearheaded by then-technical director Paolo Maldini.
Despite the Milan legend's unceremonious axing earlier this month, the club have remained keen on the dominant midfielder, especially with the anticipated departure of Sandro Tonali.
The length of Loftus-Cheek's deal in Italy is unknown. He is the first signing in what Stefano Pioli will hope will be a busy summer of incomings.
Loftus-Cheek played a total of 155 games for Chelsea after graduating from the academy in 2014. A strong, measured midfielder, he enjoyed his best spell in the Premier League while on-loan with Palace during the 2017-18 campaign.
Then just 21, Loftus-Cheek played 24 games for the Eagles as they finished well clear of the relegation zone in eleventh.
Unfortunately, injuries plagued even his best seasons as groin, thigh and ankle troubles kept him on the sidelines for 14 games.
The trend continued the following year and ultimately came to a head in the 2019-20 campaign where Loftus-Cheek was absent until the end of February with an Achilles tendon rupture.
Milan will hope that his injury woes are well behind him as they bid to regain their Serie A title next term.
