Today's topic is: Does possession really matter in the football match?
Here are some best comments from AFers:
@SH221B: Of course, Ball possession really matters in football. Ball possession increases confidence of players on the pitch and help them to play more comfortable. Ball possession makes the opposition team sit back and defend most of the times and it will help you a lot.But Ball possession can be effective only if you are capable of doing great passes in the final third. Also you should be aware of opposition's Counter attacking threat.
@Mosanya: Ball possession matters in a football match because possession is so much more than just keeping the ball away from the other team,It also teaches players that shooting is not always the best choice since it will lower the amount of time that the team has the ball. Great possession teams work the ball around the pitch and have plenty of off-ball movement, even if a possession lasts seven straight minutes, it should be leading to something. Forwards should keep looking for openings behind the defense, midfielders should look for those runs, and defenders should be available for a pass if the team needs to reset.
Yes it does
But doesn't mean the result of a match depends solely upon it.
possession can be used to drain out the opposition's stamina but that doesn't win you matches.
A match can be won with 30% possession if u r smart enough but
overall possession is important but not the only important aspect to win a game .
@A1NERS: Possession matters of you score with it but doesn't matter when your outscored as the possession team. For example Barca 11/12 season they controlled the games from top to bottom and most importantly the scoreline. Then theres games we see that the team has way less possession where they still outscore other teams with possession. So to end my opinion about possession its a 50/50 what you do but you need to be clinical infront of goal with or without it.
