Alexander-Arnold 'turns into statue' in unseen footage from Brighton battering

Football fans have spotted Trent Alexander-Arnold "turning into a statue" as Brighton blew Liverpool away at the Amex Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Reds collapsed on the South Coast as Brighton found the net three times - and the third goal has drawn the attention of football fans. While he wasn't directly involved in the goal, Alexander-Arnold can be seen standing stationary on the edge of the box as Danny Welbeck notches.

The full-back's performances have been put under a microscope this season. And football fans have laughed at Alexander Arnold's attempt at defending on social media.

One Liverpool fan fumed: "Can anyone at all explain why Trent is like a statue here and doesn't drop into the danger area while looking at the Brighton players in there?"

"Brighton were playing so good that Trent decided to stop playing and just enjoy their game," a second joked. While a third said: "Look at this, even if Welbeck decides to pass instead of shoot it's a tap-in. How can we be that easy to play against!"

And a fourth added: "Stick up for Trent all you want but when people say he can't defend then you see things like this, you have to admit they have a point..."

Liverpool have sunk to ninth in the Premier League - and they are on the same points as Graham Potter's struggling Chelsea.

The Reds face Chelsea next week, but Jurgen Klopp's side have to navigate a tricky FA Cup third-round replay away against Wolves before they welcome the Blues to Anfield.
