Areola shows his incredible flexibility as he kicks the CROSSBAR before France vs Holland

Alphonse Areloa offered a demonstration of his impressive athleticism as he kicked the crossbar while warming up before France's Nations League match win over Holland.

The PSG stopper, who stands at 6ft 5in, made contact with the 10ft-high woodwork after a prodigious leap and kick that drew astonishment on social media.

Bouncing up and down on his goalline, the Parisian leaps directly upwards and kicks out with his right boot, hitting the frame of the goal above him.

And his flexibility drew comparisons with another highly supple footballer in Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

One Twitter user commented: 'Zlatan who?' and another thought it was a 'Zlatanesque' move.

The Swede became known for his physical ability and agility on the field, and Areola's effort showed similar skills.

Areola was selected for France's World Cup winning squad in the summer but did not make an appearance.

Instead, Hugo Lloris served as No 1 while second-choice Steve Mandanda stepped in for the dead rubber final group game against Denmark.

Yet, with Mandanda and Lloris both picking up injuries, Areola was finally presented with an opportunity for France's UEFA Nations League double-header against Germany and Holland.

In the 0-0 draw against Germany, Areola made six saves to keep the scores level - the most saves made by a France keeper in one game in more than 10 years.

Despite conceding his first international goal to Ryan Babel, Areola did enough to help his side to a 2-1 win with Kylian Mbappe and Olivier Giroud on target.

His international debut marks an impressive rise for Areola, who started the season as back-up to new signing Gianluigi Buffon at PSG.

Yet club boss Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that Areola has put himself in the best position to be No 1 for the Parisians this season.

Tuchel said: 'Yes, I chose. The decision is not final but I told Alphonse that he was in my opinion in pole position to be number one,' Tuchel told RMC Sport, as per Sky Sports.

'He comes from the training centre. PSG, that's all for him, and he absolutely wants to prove himself to PSG. PSG is everything to him.'
