Arsenal 'planning DOUBLE swoop for Sheffield United duo Aaron Ramsdale and Sander Berge'

Arsenal are set to be considering a double-raid on Sheffield United for goal-keeper Aaron Ramsdale and midfielder Sander Berge.

Mikel Arteta has been chasing Ramsdale for some time, but his interest has re-emerged in Berge after unofficial talks seemed to cool off earlier this year, according to The Star.

The Gunners are thought to be baulking at the Blades' £40million demand for Ramsdale, believing an offer of £30m is more appropriate, but United are not moving.

However, as a compromise, Arsenal are reportedly willing to table a sizeable offer for both Ramsdale and Berge that the Blades, as a Championship club, would find difficult to turn down.

For his part, United manager Slavisa Jokanovic has made it clear he has no intention of selling either player.

Speaking after the Blades' 4-0 pre-season friendly win over Doncaster, he said: 'If you ask me if I will sell, no. I am happy with their professionalism.

'I will be hurt if they leave my team. I understand this possibility exists but I hope that will not happen.'

Jokanovic added that both players are 'happy' in pre-season training, suggesting neither is agitating for a move away.

Arteta has made signing a new goal-keeper a top priority and were dealt a blow when Ajax stopper Andre Onana moved to Lyon ahead of north London for just £6.8m.

The Gunners boss has already made three big signings this summer, with the most significant deal seeing defender Ben White arrive from Brighton for £50m.

Midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga and left-back Nuno Tavares have also joined but Arteta is keen for more arrivals before the start of the new Premier League season.
