Arsenal have submitted a world record fee for England and Manchester United striker Alessia Russo.
Russo, 23, is out of contract with United at the end of the season and turned down an offer of a new deal last year.
Arsenal boss Jonas Eidevall has been open about his desire to sign a proven goalscorer before Tuesday's transfer deadline and has made Russo his top target.
The forward is a hugely important player for the Red Devils, who are currently joint top of the Women's Super League table.
United have not made a decision on whether to accept the Gunners' offer, which Sportsmail understands to be considerably higher than £400,000 record fee Barcelona paid to sign Keira Walsh from Manchester City last summer.
Marc Skinner's side are desperate to qualify for the Champions League for the first time in their history and losing Russo would have a significant impact on their aspirations for this season.
Russo scored the winner in a 3-2 victory over Arsenal at the Emirates in November and has five goals in nine league games this term.
The striker is one of the most valuable players in the women's game, having risen to prominence during the Lionesses' Euro 2022 triumph.
Russo scored four goals at the tournament including a back-heel in the semi-final against Sweden, which has since been nominated for the Puskas Award.
Arsenal could sign Russo for free this summer but the loss of Beth Mead and Vivianne Midema to long-term injuries means they are keen to do a deal this month.
Russo joined her childhood club United in 2020 after a spell in America with North Carolina University.
