Arsenal's summer business is finally picking up, with Riccardo Calafiori closing in on a move to the Gunners.

The defender would become the second senior arrival at the Emirates Stadium in the close-season, following on from David Raya. Boss Mikel Arteta is keen to make more additions to his squad though as he looks to close the gap on Manchester City.

But there will also be a focus on outgoings, with Eddie Nketiah the latest Gunners star to attract interest. Arsenal could be tempted into selling the academy graduate, though Arteta will demand a replacement for the striker.

Meanwhile, any hopes of landing Nico Williams have suffered a major blow, with Athletic Bilbao now confident he will remain in La Liga. Here, Mirror Football rounds up the latest Arsenal transfer news.

Nketiah bid received

Arsenal have received a bid from Marseille for striker Eddie Nketiah. The academy graduate has spent the past two seasons as a key man in Mikel Arteta's first-team squad, though he has struggled to score goals on a regular basis.

According to FootMercato, Marseille have now grown interested in the 25-year-old, submitting an offer for the striker. It is said that the Ligue 1 side are close to agreeing personal terms with Nketiah, who still has another three years to run on his Arsenal contract.

Nketiah is highly-regarded by Arteta but he is said to be open to a departure from the Gunners this summer. Marseille are now awaiting a response from Arsenal to their offer for the England international.

Saliba warning sent

Arsenal legend Paul Merson has warned his former club that they must keep hold of William Saliba this summer. The defender has starred for the Gunners over the past two seasons as they mounted title challenges in successive years.

His performances have attracted the interest of Real Madrid, though they are yet to make a formal move for the Frenchman. And Merson has insisted that if a bid does come in, the Gunners must turn it down.

He told Football’s Greatest Podcast: “A Rolls Royce of a defender, a phenomenal defender. It’s like Arsenal. If Arsenal lost Saliba, who I thought was the defender of the tournament, he was amazing, I would say no chance."

Williams set to stay at Bilbao

Athletic Bilbao manager Ernesto Valverde is confident Arsenal target Nico Williams will stay a the club this summer. The 22-year-old starred as Spain won Euro 2024, attracting interest from the Gunners among others, though Valverde has played down the chances of the winger leaving.

"I have no doubts about Nico. He looks good and happy. This year we have many challenges ahead of us and I'm sure Nico will love to face them. He hasn't been the only player who has had to live with rumours because the market will be open until the end of August," he said.

"He's a great player and there may be clubs who might be interested in him, but he's happy with us and we're happy with him. We're counting on Nico for when he returns from the holidays."
