Arsenal have triggered an extension clause in William Saliba's contract that will see the player's deal run until 2024, according to reports.

The Frenchman has been one of the standout players throughout the Premier League campaign and has helped the Gunners sit atop the table heading into 2023.

The 21-year-old's current deal was set to expire in the summer but Mikel Arteta's side have activated a clause that will see him stay for another year, at least.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Gunners have activated the clause that extends his contact until 2024 but remain in talks over a long-term deal for the defender.

The centre-back - after a few loan spells away from the club - has become an integral part of Arteta's impressive back-line.

He's started in every single Premier League game for the Gunners and has helped keep a clean sheet in six of their 15 top-flight outings so far.

It's his first full-season with the north London side despite signing in 2019 after spending loan spells with St-Etienne, Nice and Marseille.

In addition to Saliba's new deal, Arsenal also recently triggered a contract extension for Blackpool loanee Charlie Patino - amid interest from Barcelona.

The midfielder, 19, is currently building senior experience on loan with the Championship side and his contract was set to expire at the end of the season.

However, Arsenal decided to exercise the option of keeping him for a further two years, it was confirmed last week.
