Atletico Madrid have reportedly identified a replacement for Joao Felix amid rumours the forward will leave the club in the near future.

The forward is thought to be available for transfer next month after struggling to show his huge talent regularly under boss Diego Simeone, which has led to rumours over a potential move to England.

With that in mind, the club have looked to act swiftly in finding a replacement for Felix - who cost Atletico a whopping £114million in 2019 - and have seemingly found one in one of their rival teams in LaLiga.

According to MARCA, Diego Simeone's side have identified Real Betis striker Borja Iglesias as the man to fill the boots of Felix, should he decide to leave.

The Spanish outlet claim contact has been made between Atletico and the player's representatives as they look to discuss a potential deal before the window begins.

Iglesias, 29, currently has eight goals and two assists from his 13 LaLiga appearances this term. He mustered just 10 goals in total during the entire campaign last year.

Felix has just three goals and three assists from his 12 appearances in the Spanish top flight this season. He scored eight in the last campaign.

Felix has also been offered to Premier League clubs as he seeks an escape route from Atletico Madrid in January.

One of the teams who are reportedly interested in Felix are Aston Villa, however the player is apparently not keen on a move to the club.

Felix joined the Spanish club for about £120million - one of the most expensive deals of all time - from Benfica in summer 2019, however has struggled in the Madrid side.

His performances during the World Cup - contributing one goal and two assists - suggest there is more to come from a player who was once so highly touted.

Given Felix has a contract at Atletico until 2026, it will take a considerable sum to prise him away and some Premier League sides believe a loan could be more realistic.
