Birmingham City pinch a classic scene from Home Alone 2 to announce the signing of Kevin Long

Birmingham City have hilariously referenced Home Alone 2 on social media while announce their signing of Republic of Ireland international Kevin Long from Burnley.

The video, posted to the club's Twitter account, borrows a classic scene from the second installment of the comedy franchise with members of the McCallister family passing a bag towards the film's protagonist.

As every member of the family receives the item, they pass along the instruction to 'give this to Kevin' before reaching the end of the line before coming to the realisation that the boy has become separated from the rest of the family.

In Birmingham's adaptation of the scene however, the bag eventually reaches Long who then unfurls the club's home shirt with the squad number 26.

After finding himself surplus to requirements under Vincent Kompany having not made an appearance for Burnley since the club's relegation to the Championship, Long has elected to join the Blues on a short-term deal until the end of the season.

The 32-year-old made the move to Turf Moor from his native Ireland back in 2010, but repeatedly found it difficult to break into the club's first team.

His most consistent spell came in the 2017/18 season when he made 16 Premier League appearances and scored his only goal for the club, a header in a 2-1 win over Leicester.

Long spent much of his time at Leicester on loan, appearing for Accrington Stanley, Rochdale, Portsmouth, Barnsley, and MK Dons.

Birmingham currently sit 17th in the Championship table, six points clear of the relegation zone but with just one win in their last five games.
