Celtic have called for Sky Sports to launch an investigation into allegations that Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos’ interview with the broadcaster contained fabricated quotes by the Colombian which accused Celtic fans of racism.
Broadcast on Monday with subtitles, the interview’s interpretation from Spanish has now been widely contested — in particular, the segment where the player recalled his dismissal at the end of the Old Firm game at Celtic Park on December 29.
Sent off for picking up a second booking for diving at the end of Rangers’ 2-1 victory, Morelos made a cut-throat gesture as he made his way towards the tunnel.
Morelos apparently had his say on the matter when the Sky broadcast went out earlier this week — with the subtitles of his words explicitly accusing some home supporters of racism.
By Tuesday afternoon, though, that translation of the interview was being widely disputed.
Amid growing questions about the translation’s accuracy, Sky pulled the interview from their website.
A spokesman for Sky said: ‘We are aware of concerns raised about the content of the interview with Alfredo Morelos.
‘While we are checking those, we have removed the material from all our platforms.’
