'Chadwick 1-0 Gerrard'- Ex Utd man reflects on being compared to Reds star

Former Manchester United midfielder Luke Chadwick has reflected on being compared to Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard after picking up a Premier League winners' medal in 2001.

Chadwick came through the youth ranks at United and was present for three league title victories but only made enough appearances to collect one medal in the 2000-2001 season.

But that's still more than the former Liverpool captain who, despite coming close on a number of occasions, never managed to lift the trophy.

Chadwick made 39 senior appearances before leaving United in 2006 to join West Ham. He then went on to play for Stoke, Norwich Milton Keynes Dons and Cambridge United before retiring at non-league side Soham Rangers.

Now coaching children in the Cambridgeshire community, Chadwick revealed he is still reminded of the fact he has one up on the former England captain Gerrard.

In a post on Twitter, he said: 'Chadwick 1 Gerrard 0. I get this said to me so much, not sure if it's a compliment or insult.

'I'm fully aware I didn't play a huge part when winning my medal, but still something I'm honoured and proud of.

'I was a journeyman he was a superstar, but I still loved the journey.'

Back in 2014 Chadwick admitted he never believed he would be a regular at Old Trafford but was just happy to play football.

'From the moment I went there I don't think I truly believed I would be a regular Manchester United player,' he told BBC Sport.

'I just wanted to play football. I didn't want the fame and stuff that came with it. And at the biggest club in the world you're never going to get away with that.

'In the end I think I was happy to get away from United. It's a fantastic club and I wouldn't say a bad word against it.

'But I don't think I was really cut out for it. I wouldn't have enjoyed staying there. You've got to be something special to play at the club for a long period of time.'
