Cristiano Ronaldo has vowed to 'keep continuing' at Manchester United after posting an update on his Instagram feed showing him wearing inflatable recovery sleeves on his legs.

Many would have expected the footballing superstar to keep relatively quiet on social media following his recent troubles with United boss Erik ten Hag that has seen Ronaldo omitted from the first-team squad.

The 37-year-old left the bench early in United's midweek win over Tottenham and refused to be substituted into the match as revealed by Ten Hag in Friday's pre-match press conference ahead of a weekend trip to Chelsea.

Posting on Instagram for the second consecutive day following a training sessions with United's under-21 side, he showed his legs resting on his sofa encompassed in recovery boots.

The story image was captioned in Ronaldo's native Portuguese with the single word 'continuamos' being loosely translated to 'we continue'. A suggestion that Ronaldo is ready to return to the first-team after being banished by Ten Hag.

Ronaldo's update to his 490million Instagram followers comes a day comes less than 24 hours after his last post in which the five-times Champions League winner insisted United's players and staff 'must stand' together.

His post on Thursday followed the club's decision to not include Ronaldo in Saturday's Premier League contest against Chelsea, with Ten Hag laying down the law to misbehaving players.

Speaking ahead of Saturday's Stamford Bridge clash, Ten Hag said:

'I am the manager, I am responsible for top spot culture here and I have to set standards and values and I have to control them,' he said.

'In the team, we have values and standards and I have to control that. After [Rayo] Vallecano, I told him it was unacceptable but not him everyone, this is the second time, there are consequences.

'We miss him tomorrow, it's a miss for the squad but it's important for the attitude and mentality of the group and now we have to focus on Chelsea as that is important.
