Cucurella BOOED OFF by Chelsea fans after £62m signing fails to impress again

Marc Cucurella was booed off by sections of Chelsea supporters after the £62million summer signing was substituted in the second half of their 1-1 draw against West Ham.

The Spanish left back has struggled to replicate the form he displayed at Brighton, which convinced the Blues to sign the defender in the summer.

Cucurella was brought off by manager Graham Potter in the 67th minute against West Ham.

A section of the away support could be heard booing the left back, before cheering his replacement Ben Chilwell onto the pitch.

Cucurella and Chilwell are seeking to earn the starting berth at full back as Chelsea seek to address their stuttering form.

Cucurella has started 17 of Chelsea's 22 Premier League matches since joining in the summer.

The defender has operated both at left-back and as a centre-half within the back three this season, registering two assists since the beginning of the campaign.

In general, Chelsea's attacking threat over the last few seasons has come out wide, with marauding wing-backs such as Reece James and Chilwell charging forward in support of the midfield.

However, with the English pair out injured for large parts of this season, the Blues' goal tally has suffered as a result.

Chilwell has been brought off the bench in the Blues last two matches, as he steps up his recovery from a hamstring injury.

Former Blues defender Frank Leboeuf had claimed Cucurella is a major weakness in the team following their draw with Fulham earlier this month.

The ex-France international had suggested the club had wasted money on the Spaniard.

Blues owner Todd Boehly beat to Manchester City to Cucurella's signature last August, with the defender signing a six-year deal at the club.

Chelsea’s draw with West Ham leaves the Blues ninth in the Premier League, nine points adrift of the Champions League places.

Boehly had spent over £300m during a record-breaking January transfer window for the Premier League last month.

Enzo Fernandez joined for a British record fee of £107m, while Mykhailo Mudryk, Joao Felix, Benoit Badiashile, Andrey Santos, David Datro Fofana, Gabriel Slonina, Malo Gusto and Noni Madueke all arrived at Stamford Bridge.
