The Manchester United goalkeeper was quick to salute the Czech veteran, who will retire from football at the end of the season
Game recognises game, and that is certainly the case when it comes to do of the greatest goalkeepers to ever pull on gloves in the Premier League.
Tuesday's news that Petr Cech will retire from football at the end of the current season has led to many tributes from the great and the good of the game, but perhaps few would have meant as much to the Arsenal stopper as this one from David De Gea.
The Manchester United star again proved why plenty consider him to be the best goalkeeper in the world today with his display in the Red Devils' 1-0 victory over Tottenham at Wembley on Sunday.
And just two days later, he posted this brilliant tribute to Cech.
Along with a picture of the 36-year-old's Arsenal shirt, De Gea wrote: "I keep with great affection Petr Cech's shirt.
"Without a doubt one of the best keepers in the history of the Premier League. We'll miss you!!"
The words came hours after De Gea's former Machester United manager Jose Mourinho paid tribute to a goalkeeper he managed to three Premier League titles at Chelsea.
"I am honoured to have been the manager that, at such an early age, gave Petr a top Premier League number one shirt," he told Sky Sports News.
"After that day, it is all about him. All about his numbers, his performances, his clean sheets, his titles and his professionalism.
