De Jong shows off nasty bee sting which has seen his left hand balloon in size

Frenkie de Jong is used to getting the better of his opponents but when it came to a dual with nature the Barcelona midfielder was left sporting a nasty wound.

The Dutchman sported a bandage on his left hand during Saturday night's UEFA Champions League last-16 second-leg with Napoli, which Barcelona won 3-1 on the night.

It was not clear then why De Jong was sporting so much wrapping on his left hand but a post on social media, plus an appearance in training on Monday, showed the nasty impact of a bee sting which caused major swelling, almost doubling his fist in size.

In images taken by his girlfriend Mikky Kiemeney, De Jong is still able to raise something of a smile despite the fist looking in all sorts of pain.

In comparison to his normal hand, the left, which was the one stung by the bee, has ballooned in size and has gone blotchy and red as a reaction.

Redness and swelling can last from a sting for a couple of days and as he trained on Monday as Barcelona prepare for the Champions League quarter-finals, it has not exactly subsided.

De Jong managed to put the battle with the bee behind him as he played a key role in Saturday's win over Napoli.

He was denied an assist for Lionel Messi after VAR had adjudged that De Jong's pinpoint delivery was taken down with the aid of the Argentine's arm and after a lengthy delay it was ruled out.

Quique Setien will hope De Jong has seen the swelling reduce by the time they play Bayern Munich in Portugal for their last-eight encounter on Friday night.
