Ederson could have played his last game for Premier League champions Manchester City.
As revealed by Mirror Sport on Monday, Ederson could be one of the most high-profile players to leave Pep Guardiola's all-conquering squad this summer. Senior figures fear City's first-choice goalkeeper is ready to move on after seven years at the club, with the lucrative Saudi Pro League his likeliest destination.
Although City are not looking to sell Ederson, if a huge offer way above his market value came in for the 30-year-old Brazilian, the club would consider it and make a decision accordingly.
While Ederson – signed from Benfica for £35million – made 33 Premier League starts this season, he was somewhat upstaged by his understudy, Stefan Ortega, who also made three Champions League appearances and has been in goal for City's run to the FA Cup final.
Ortega made nine league appearances when Ederson was injured and excelled, in particular in a 1-1 draw at Liverpool and in City's 2-0 win at Tottenham, where he denied Son Heung-Min, with five minutes left and the score 1-0.
City have offered Ortega a new deal, but the 31-year-old German wants assurances over improved playing time before he commits his future to the Blues.
Ortega's contract decision is likely to be dependent on what happens with Ederson. If City move to offer Ederson a new deal this summer, rather than cash in on him, then Ortega is likely to go.
Ederson suffered a fractured eye socket in the win at Spurs, which has ruled him out of the rest of the season, meaning Ortega will be in goal for Saturday's FA Cup final clash with local rivals Manchester United.
During a glittering spell at City, Ederson has won six Premier League titles, the Champions League, two FA Cups, four League Cups, FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup.
Ederson signed a contract extension in 2021, which is due to expire in 2026, meaning he has two years left on his current contract.
