Manchester City star Julian Alvarez has revealed Erling Haaland's 'favourite club'.

The 22-year-old hitman, who has scored 33 goals in 34 appearances across all competitions since joining City last summer, fell in love with a particular club thanks to Marseille defender Leandro Balerdi.

Haaland and Balerdi rubbed shoulders at Borussia Dortmund for six months during the Norwegian's two-year stint at the Bundesliga outfit.

The striker may hold a soft spot for his previous teams Dortmund, Red Bull Salzburg, Molde and Bryne, but none of these clubs come close to his favourite side, according to his Manchester City team-mate.

Alvarez revealed that Haaland is keenly interested in Argentine football, and the Norwegian has kept a close eye on one South American giant in particular.

The Premier League superstar is secretly a fan of Boca Juniors, who are the bitter rivals of Alvarez's former team River Plate.

Opening up about their relationship as team-mates, Alvarez told TyC Sports: 'He's a good guy. He helps me, we talk to each other and I try to observe him from the outside in order to learn.

'Ever since I've been here, he's always told me he's for Boca Juniors and he's talked to me about La Bombonera [Boca Juniors' stadium].

'I think he was with Leonardo Balerdi at Borussia Dortmund and that influenced him a bit.

'We'll see if we can change [his allegiance to River Plate] little by little. It's going to be difficult, but we'll try.'

Balerdi, in fact, mentioned Haaland's infatuation with Boca Juniors during an interview last year.

He said: 'When I was at Borussia, Haaland asked me from day one who was the best team and is the club with the greatest history in Argentina.

'I drove him crazy with Boca, showing him videos of the fans, photos of the stadium and everything related to Boca. He became a fan of Boca and we are still in contact to this day.

'Whenever he sees a video of Boca, he sends it to me. He bugs me and asks me "when are we going?".

'He asked me to send me a Boca jersey number nine. He really is a real fan.'

Manchester City has long had a connection with Argentinian football, thanks in part to the historic career of club legend Sergio Aguero, who clinched five Premier League titles during his decade at the Etihad.

Carlos Tevez, who Haaland may have watched frequently during his swansong years at Boca, made over 100 appearances for the current Premier League champions.

Argentina internationals Pablo Zabaleta, Nicolas Otamendi, Martin Demichelis and Willy Caballero also carved out trophy-laden spells at the Etihad.
