Fernando Torres had brilliant scoring ratio for Liverpool at his peak

Having confirmed his intention to retire at the age of 35, Fernando Torres will go down as one of Liverpool's - and the Premier League's - deadliest ever strikers.

Across three season from 2007 until 2010, the Spaniard set a goalscoring ratio of 0.84 goals per 90 minutes in the Premier League, excluding penalties.

That level of consistency sets him apart from many other Premier League strikers, with the likes of Thierry Henry getting only 0.73 and Alan Shearer on 0.71 over their three best consecutive Premier League seasons.

Manchester City star Sergio Aguero also comes in below that at 0.71, while fellow Kop legend Luis Suarez was even lower at 0.69.

In total, Torres registered 81 goals in just 142 games for Liverpool between joining them from Atletico Madrid in 2007 and leaving for Chelsea in 2011 for £50m.

His first campaign was his highest-scoring, racking up 24 Premier League strikes and 33 in all competitions from 46 games.

In the 2008/2009 season, Torres played only 24 Premier League games but still found the net 14 times, with 18 more goals coming in 22 league appearances the following season.

His final season would see him play 23 games and score nine goals before departing for Chelsea mid-season.
