Former Liverpool youngster Herbie Kane says he REGRETS moving to Anfield

Barnsley midfielder Herbie Kane has admitted he regrets joining Liverpool at 15-years-old, saying his time at Anfield 'wasn't the best'.

Kane began his career at hometown club Bristol City but signed for the Reds in 2013 and made his debut for Jurgen Klopp’s first-team against MK Dons in the Carabao Cup last season.

He was nominated for the Golden Boy award in 2018 alongside Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ben Woodburn but was unable to break into Klopp's plans on a regular basis, making just two senior appearances.

Kane left Merseyside and signed with Championship club Burnley for £1.25million back in October and has gone on to make 13 appearances so far this season.

But, speaking in the club's official match-day programme, Kane says he wishes he stayed put at Bristol City and didn't enjoy his time at Liverpool.

He wrote: 'It's not something I've really looked back at before, but I think with reflection, I'd probably stay at Bristol City if I had to make the same decision again.

'In terms of Liverpool, I've got to be honest, it wasn't the best.

'A lot of things are promised to you when they're trying to sign you, but nothing ever came of it. But that can be football in general to be honest.

'The only way I can explain what it was like for me there was how when you're playing as a kid and you're picking the teams, and you're the last one picked.

'It was that kind of feeling. It wasn't the best for me there. But it was a valuable experience and I probably wouldn't be here at Barnsley without it.'

As well as the League Cup tie at MK Dons, Kane also played in the competition against Aston Villa when a young squad led by Neil Critchley travelled to Villa Park.

Jurgen Klopp's senior squad were in Qatar for the FIFA Club World Cup and a scheduling issue forced them to play two teams on separate sides of the world.

Kane also made nine appearances on loan at Hull last season and had a spell at Doncaster in 2018-19.
