Former Manchester United and Everton midfielder Darron Gibson is one of 11 players released by Salford City following the end of the League Two season.
The clubs in the fourth tier signalled their intention to end the campaign on Friday and decide the final table on points-per-game amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
And Salford, who are part-owned by members of United's famous Class of 92, have wasted little time in deciding which of their squad to retain and release.
Gibson, 32, played just four times for the club during their maiden Football League season with Salford sitting 10th in the standings when football was suspended in March.
He had only joined on a free from Wigan Athletic in early February, signing a six-month contract until the end of the season.
Gibson played alongside Class of 92 members and Salford owners Gary Neville, Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs during his seven years in United's first team.
In all, the Republic of Ireland midfielder made 60 appearances for the Old Trafford club, scoring 10 goals, and won the Premier League title in 2010-11 and the League Cup in 2009 and 2010.
Gibson later played for Everton and Sunderland before joining Wigan at the start of last season. He has been capped 27 times for Ireland.
Josh Askew, Craig Conway, Kieran Glynn, Kyle Letheren, Chris Neal, Michael O'Connor, Nathan Pond, Devante Rodney, Mark Shelton and Scott Wiseman are the other players leaving the club.
Ibou Touray has had his contract extended to the end of the 2020-21 campaign.
