Frank Lampard plays down Timo Werner-Fernando Torres comparisons

Frank Lampard admits he needs to work with Chelsea's misfiring striker Timo Werner, but believes that comparisons with Fernando Torres are premature.

The £53m German striker is without a Premier League goal for the Blues since November 7, and missed a gilt-edged chance to end his drought late on at Fulham on Saturday.

And Lampard believes he needs to work closely with the 24-year-old to repair his battered confidence.

'All players will experience it in their career. All eyes are on and it becomes magnified. I need to work with him on it', he said on Monday ahead of Tuesday's trip to Leicester.

'I'm not comparing him to anybody. Everybody is different, Torres had difficult times here but won the Champions League.

'All we need to do is create the best environment to get the best out of Timo. You must repeat, keep working and he needs to keep his head down and focus, I need to give him positivity.'

Torres moved to Stamford Bridge in a sensational £50m January deadline day move from Liverpool 10 years ago this month.

After lighting up the Premier League at Anfield, he struggled for form and confidence in London, scoring just 45 times in 172 appearances between 2011 and 2014.

But the Spaniard was part of the Chelsea side, alongside Lampard, that won the Champions League in 2012 and he scored a memorable clincher in the semi-final victory over Barcelona.
