Frimpong's weed-themed celebration goes viral as Leverkusen make DFB Pokal final

Bayer Leverkusen star Jeremie Frimpong's celebration with team-mate Amine Adli has gone viral after Bayer Leverkusen made it to the DFB Pokal final.

Xabi Alonso's side thrashed Fortuna Dusseldorf 4-0 to maintain their unbeaten run this season, with the Germans still dreaming of completing the treble.

While the Bundesliga side looked far superior to their second-division opponents, it wasn't just the style of play which caught the attention.

With both Frimpong and Adli scoring in the semi-final, the pair joined together to celebrate as they mimicked smoking weed.

In the 7th minute, after Frimpong's strike, he pretended to roll and light up a joint before passing it to his team-mate.

Frimpong, born in the Netherlands, could have been paying homage to his birth city of Amsterdam, where marijuana has been legal for several years.

Two days before the match, Germany became the largest European Union country to legalise marijuana possession for recreational use.

After the change of law, it is no longer illegal for people in the country to possess up to 25g of marijuana in public.

German citizens are also now allowed to grow their own plants at home.

After 35 games played this season, Alonso's Leverkusen are still unbeaten and sit 13 points clear at the top of the Bundesliga table.

They'll face West Ham United in the Europa League quarter-finals as they look to complete a famous treble.

It remains to be seen as to whether Leverkusen can hold onto their key assets such as Frimpong, but who knows, Germany's new legiilisation could convince the Dutch native to stay for a little bit longer!
