Arsenal's 6-0 thrashing of Sheffield United on Monday evening was marred by an injury scare to Brazilian winger Gabriel Martinelli.

The 22-year-old contributed to his side's stunning victory at Bramall Lane by scoring the game's third goal as Arsenal maintained their place in the Premier League title race.

Martinelli brought up his eighth goal of the season in all competitions by striking on-target in the 15th minute, but was later subbed off amid concerns over his fitness.

He emerged for the second half with Arsenal in full control of the English top-flight fixture before being withdrawn and seen walking gingerly to the dugout.

Gunners manager Mikel Arteta later revealed the winger suffered a cut and was unable to continue in the match, sprouting concern amongst supporters ahead of an upcoming run of crucial games.

Speaking to Sky Sports at full time, Arteta stated: 'Gabi is just a cut,a light cut and we see how he is.'

Martinelli has previously been hampered by injury this season and missed six games during a 20-day absence spanning from September to October last year.

A previous hamstring injury led to fears that the youngster would see his impact during Arsenal's title-contending season limited before he made a full recovery.

Arsenal's team of medical staff will now assess the extent of Martinelli's cut before determining if he is able to play in Saturday's visit to face Brentford.

Arteta also provided an update on Arsenal and England star Bukayo Saka who was similarly withdrawn due to a fitness concern.

The Gunners boss revealed Saka wasn't feeling 'right' and needed to be pulled out of the action against Sheffield United.

'Bukayo was feeling sick and not right so we took him off,' said Arteta.
