On Wednesday, the pair will meet when Barcelona take on Bayern.
Gavi and Jamal Musiala have been making headlines in recent weeks. Both were nominated for the Kopa Trophy and the Golden Boy award. Gavi won both trophies, much to the annoyance of Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann, who said: “Musiala and Bellingham have had better seasons than Gavi”. Alphonso Davies, Bayern’s left-back, also complained: “You may have been denied the Kopa, Jamal...”.
Musiala belongs to a team that is still a winning machine, quite the opposite of Barça. Musiala has already won three Bundesligas, a Champions League, a European Super Cup, and a Club World Cup. And he is also a regular in the German national team. Gavi is untouchable at Barça, where he has played in 62 of the 66 matches he has been available (he was only out of two matches due to suspension and two due to Covid) and in the national team, but he lacks trophies because of Barça’s tough run. The La Masia graduate recently renewed until 2026. Musiala’s Bayern contract also runs until 2026.
Today the two wonderkids will cross paths on the pitch at Camp Nou. It will not be the last time before the end of the year as Spain and Germany meet on 27 November in the World Cup.
