Gift Orban is still a Gent player despite plenty of speculation over the summer regarding a potential transfer to Tottenham Hotspur
Linked with a whole host of players across the summer, a number of Tottenham fans were hoping that the club's interest in Gent ace Gift Orban would materialise into a permanent move. That wasn't to be the case, however, with the Nigerian hotshot remaining with the Belgian club beyond the summer transfer deadline.
Valued at £17million by Transfermarkt, Gent will be hoping to get a lot more money for the 21-year-old if he is to eventually to depart. Said to be wanting at least €30million (£25.7million) for Orban if he was to be sold in the summer, Gent's chief executive Michel Louwagie has questioned why Belgian sides aren't able to bring in big transfer fees for talented players whereas clubs such as Ajax in the Netherlands have sold their players on for huge sums of money.
"That has already made me angry," he told Het Nieuwsblad when asked about Orban and his price tag. "Why do Ajax and PSV sell players like Antony for €95million (£81.6million) and others for easily €40million-€50million (£34.3million-£42.9million)?
"And why should we think that €30million (£25.8million) is too much, even though the competition here is at least as good (as in the Eredivisie)?
"But we are Flemish. (We) look at each other’s plates and are jealous, instead of all demanding higher prices and helping Belgian football progress. We really need to stop doing that."
