Antoine Griezmann's brother is furious with Quique Setien after the Barcelona boss gave the Frenchman just a few minutes to make an impact in Tuesday evening's 2-2 draw with Atletico Madrid.
Theo Griezmann took to Twitter to slam Setien for not giving his sibling a more prominent role in the match, claiming that he was close to tears after seeing his brother benched for a third time in four games.
Theo questioned Setien's decisions with a series of now-deleted tweets, expressing his disbelief at the current situation his brother has found himself in.
With the game almost over and Griezmann preparing to come on, Theo tweeted: 'Honestly, I am going to cry,' before adding shortly after '2 minutes' – in reference to the amount of game-time the Frenchman had against his former club.
Theo was eventually lost for words, simply tweeting: '...' as his third tweet before deleting all three shortly after.
In a further jab at Setien, Theo took to Instagram to post a picture of himself with Antoine as they celebrated France's World Cup triumph in 2018.
Since his £108million (€120m) arrival last summer, Griezmann has struggled to find his feet at the Nou Camp and has been linked away from the club in recent months.
The 29-year-old has not scored or assisted a goal in six appearances since LaLiga restarted in June, while his record before lockdown wasn't that great, either – netting just eight times this season.
Griezmann's former boss at Atletico Madrid, Diego Simeone, was also lost for words when he was asked about the Frenchman's brief cameo appearance on Tuesday, simply saying: 'I have no words.'
Setien cast further doubt over Griezmann's future at the club when he claimed that the attacker's presence disturbed the balance of his team.
When asked about the decision to bench Griezmann, Setien replied: 'It's difficult to put him on without destabilising the team.
'I understand it's tough for Griezmann to come on when so little time left. I will speak with him tomorrow, I won't say sorry because [it's about] decisions.
'But I understand he may feel bad and I feel bad for him because he's a great person and professional.'
Griezmann's Barca team-mate and compatriot, Clement Lenglet, believes he has the capacity to bounce back from this blip.
The Barcelona defender told Le Parisien: 'Antoine is well integrated in the dressing room, there really is no problem. On the pitch, he himself knows he can do better.
'But we must not forget his statistics. He has still scored 14 goals and created several assists.
'For a first season, it's not bad. But, for Antoine, he is playing in a different style to what he was better used to at Atletico, and he is a player with whom we are very demanding.
'But I see him working hard in training, it can only get better. It's always the same when a Barca striker doesn't score for two games, that's he's in trouble.
'When he scores two goals, it looks like Super-Antoine is back.'
