Arsenal star Matteo Guendouzi's season has come to an end after the Frenchman suffered a fractured metatarsal, loan club Hertha Berlin has confirmed.
The 22-year-old picked up the injury in Thursday's win against Freiburg and was withdrawn by Hertha Berlin boss Pal Dardai after 39 minutes of action.
Guendouzi joined the Bundesliga outfit in October after being cast aside by Gunners boss Mikel Arteta, with the pair coming to blows during a warm weather training camp last season.
And Hertha Berlin confirmed that the Frenchman will miss the remainder of the season after fracturing his metatarsal.
'Scans on Friday morning confirmed the fears that Mattéo Guendouzi has suffered a fractured metatarsal,' a club statement read. 'The 22-year-old won't play again this season for Hertha BSC.
'The midfielder got injured during Thursday's home win over SC Freiburg, and although he tried to play on, had to come off in the 39th minute.'
Guendouzi has impressed in Germany, scoring twice while providing three assists across 24 appearances for the club.
Sporting director Arne Friedrich, who was advised to sign the 22-year-old by former Arsenal star Per Mertesacker, said Guendouzi was 'worth every penny' while Dardai said the young midfielder was going through his football 'puberty'.
Guendouzi's injury comes as a blow for Hertha Berlin, with the club in the midst of a relegation battle with four games remaining.
Dardai's side are two places above the relegation play off position occupied by Arminia, with only goal difference keeping Hertha above their relegation rivals.
The Frenchman's fiery temper landed him in trouble with Arteta, and there are hopes that his loan spell in Germany has matured the midfielder with Gunners fans viewing the youngster as part of the club's future.
Guendouzi has made 82 appearances for the North Londoners since arriving from Lorient in 2018. His contract expires next summer but he remains committed to the club.
