Achraf Hakimi’s (24) wife, Hiba Abouk, has broken her silence to lend her support to victims amidst rape charges against the Paris Saint-Germain player.
Hakimi was charged with rape earlier this month and is under formal investigation. In late February, a 24-year-old woman from Fontenay-sous-Bois in the Parisian suburbs went to a local police station claiming that she had been raped by the Moroccan international, per Le Parisien. The woman didn’t want to press charges, but the prosecutor did take up the case.
The Moroccan’s lawyer, Fanny Colin, has denied the accusations, while the Ligue 1 leaders are standing in support of their player. “The accusations are false. He is calm and is making himself available to the authorities”, Colin said.
Now, a month after the alleged events, Abouk has broken her silence. Abouk, a 36-year-old actress, has been with Hakimi for five years, and they have been married for the past three years. They have two children together but are in the process of divorcing. At the time of the alleged rape, the couple were already separated.
She began by defending her silence on the matter. “After having taken the decision to legally separate and to stop living together whilst awaiting the divorce procedure, which you can imagine, on top of the pain brought about by the separation, as well as having to accept the sadness that a failed project, which I gave my body and soul, brings, I was supposed to face up to this disgraceful act? I needed time to come to terms with this shock,” she said in a statement released on her Instagram account, transcribed by RMC Sport.
“One must trust the legal process, especially considering the gravity of the accusation. Nonetheless, in my life, I have always been on the side of victims,” she said. The Spanish actress concluded her message by calling for her private life, and that of her children, to be respected at this time given the “delicate circumstances.”
