Harry Maguire is enjoying the sun in Barbados as Manchester United prepare a last-ditch bid for the Leicester defender.

Jose Mourinho is targeting England's World Cup hero as he looks to strengthen his backline before the end of the window.

United have made contact with Leicester over a £65m deal with Maguire believed to be open to the switch.

But he won't force to quit the King Power and Leicester have no intention of letting him go following the departure of Riyad Mahrez.

Maguire is yet to return for pre-season training and is currently in Barbados with girlfriend Fern Hawkins.

The England defender was seen checking his phone as the pair relaxed on sun loungers on the beach.

Maguire spent last week in Ibiza after taking some time off following his impressive performances in Russia.

Maguire was one of England's standout performers in Russia with his stock rising considerably just a year after joining Leicester from Sheffield United.

Speaking after Leicester's defeat to Udinese, boss Claude Puel reiterated his determination to keep hold of the 25-year-old and teammate Kasper Schmeichel.

"I think we can keep them. We cannot lose players just a few days before the beginning of the season," he said.

"We would not be able to find a solution and we cannot be be behind.

"Kasper and Maguire are so valuable for us. It is important to maintain our structure, our squad and all our valuable players for the team."

United begin their Premier League campaign against Leicester on August 10 and hope Maguire will line up against his former club.

Boss Mourinho has criticised the board for failing to land his top targets - but revealed he thought there would be one more arrival this summer.

He has been handed a defensive crisis going into the start of the season, with a number of players injured and others yet to return from the World Cup.

Antonio Valencia has flown home from the tour of the United States, while new boy Diogo Dalot is yet to return to fitness.

Chris Smalling and Luke Shaw both missed the defeat to Liverpool with Phil Jones, Victor Lindelof and Ashley Young yet to return to training.

And with Matteo Darmian and Marcos Rojo set to depart before the end of the window, Mourinho is short of options.
