Real Madrid added yet another Club World Cup to their trophy cabinet when they saw off Saudis Al Hilal in Saturday’s final in Morocco.

Real Madrid secured their eighth global title in Saturday’s FIFA Club World Cup final, beating Al Hilal in an entertaining game in Rabat.

Vinícius, Valverde fire Real Madrid to victory in Morocco

Vinícius Júnior and Fede Valverde both scored twice as the UEFA Champions League holders won 5-3 at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, with Karim Benzema also netting for the LaLiga giants.

Moussa Marega and Luciano Vietto - the latter with a brace - were on the scoresheet for Saudis Al Hilal, who qualified for the tournament as winners of the AFC Champions League.

Five Club World Cups, three Intercontinental Cups

It is the first time since 2018 that Madrid have won the Club World Cup, a tournament founded in 2000. The 14-time European champions also lifted the trophy in 2014, 2016 and 2017.

On top of their five Club World Cup wins, the Spaniards have three further global titles to their name because they lifted the now-defunct Intercontinental Cup in 1960, 1998 and 2002.

FIFA now counts Intercontinental Cup as world title

Although the Intercontinental Cup was only contested by the champions of Europe and South America, FIFA now recognises the winners of the trophy as world champions.

The event ran from 1960 to 2004, overlapping with the inception of the Club World Cup, which was initially called the FIFA Club World Cup Championship.

After its inaugural edition in Brazil 23 years ago, the Club World Cup was not held again until 2005, but has been staged every year since.
